Happy Saint Lucy’s day!
Have you ever celebrated Saint Lucy’s Day? If you are in Sweden on the 13th of December, you will definitely see many candles around the city and you will hear some voices, coming out from the churches.
This is an annual Swedish tradition before everybody goes home for the Christmas break. It is a Christian-related tradition that comes from Italy. Saint Lucy wears a white long dress with a red sash on the belly (which symbolizes the blood), holding a crown of candles on her head. There are also boys, participating in the process, representing the Saint Stephan, who is the first Christian martyr.
Today, we celebrated it on our campus. The Wieselgren School Choir sang Swedish Lucia songs, and saffron buns (which symbolize the light into the darkness) and coffee was provided to everyone.
